John O’Neill, Chief Executive Officer

John, 63 has been in the hospitality industry for over 35 years. After graduating from the University of British Columbia (B.Comm 85), John held senior positions with Coast Hotels & Resorts Ltd. between 1985 – 1991. For the past 30 years, John has been CEO of O’Neill Hotels & Resorts Ltd. (OHR), a Vancouver based Hotel Management, Development and Investment firm. John has been recognized as an industry leader, having been named Canadian Hotelier of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist, and Top 40 under 40. John is a co-founder of American Hotel Income Properties REIT LP (AHIP) and was AHIP’s Chief Executive Officer from 2018 – 2020. John was a Director of Pure Multi Family REIT from 2013 to 2019. John was a co-founder of Canadian Hotel Income Properties Real Estate Investment Trust (CHIP REIT) in 1997, and also served on the Board of Directors (1999 – 2001). He has also served as a member of the Minister’s Council on Tourism, a former director of Tourism Whistler, is a past Chair of the BC Chapter of Young President’s Organization, and former member of Sauder School of Business (UBC) Faculty Advisory Board. John is currently a Director of the Fraser Institute.

Travis Beatty, Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Beatty joined American Hotel Income Properties as Chief Financial Officer in June of 2021. He was previously the CFO of Northview Apartment REIT ("Northview") from 2016 to 2020. Northview was a Canadian public REIT focused on multi-family residential real estate across Canada. Northview owned a portfolio of 26,500 units prior to being sold for $4.9 billion in the fourth quarter of 2020. Prior to Northview, Mr. Beatty spent a number of years in various roles including CFO at OPTI Canada Inc. ("OPTI"), an energy infrastructure company designed to commercialize an upgrading technology. OPTI underwent a significant growth period followed by a series of complex financial transactions through the global financial crisis, ultimately leading to its sale in 2011 for US$2.1 billion. Mr. Beatty holds a B.Comm from the University of Calgary, is a KPMG alumni, and is both a Chartered Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Bruce Pittet, Senior Vice President, Asset Management, & COO

Mr. Pittet is responsible for AHIP’s hotel profitability by working closely with its independent hotel manager; leading the company’s hotel renovations program – including the allocation of reserve capital towards hotel projects; and brand relations with AHIP’s hotel brand partners: Hilton, Marriott, IHG, Choice and Wyndham Hotels. Bruce and the Asset Management team also play an instrumental role in assessing hotel and market opportunities to ensure AHIP’s properties are located in desirable markets, and that the company has the right hotel offering to maximize revenue opportunities.

Mr. Pittet is a seasoned hospitality executive, with more than 30 years of hotel management, planning and operating experience across North America, with the last 20 years spent in the U.S.  Bruce has hotel experience in, and has completed extensive market analysis of, over 100 U.S. markets, and has been a leader of multiple major property launches, turnarounds and re-positioning initiatives. For the past six years, Mr. Pittet was Senior Vice President at ONE Lodging, which is now part of Aimbridge Hospitality – North America’s largest hotel management company and AHIP’s independent hotel manager.  As a result, Bruce has already gained intimate knowledge of AHIP’s hotel portfolio, its markets and its brand relationships.  Previously, Mr. Pittet completed hotel development and operations consulting work for Starwood Development; held various roles at Intrawest, including General Manager/Vice President for Snowshoe Mountain and later, Regional Vice President of Lodging – where he oversaw the operations and development of 12 Intrawest resort lodging business across North America and Europe.
